US immigration authorities have confirmed the arrest of famous Italian-Senegalese influencer and TikToker Khaby Lame for several hours.
"He was arrested Friday by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Nevada for violating immigration laws," a statement from ICE said, specifying that the influencer was given the opportunity to leave the country and has since departed.
"Lame entered the United States on April 30 and overstayed his visa. He was given the opportunity to voluntarily depart on June 6 and has since departed the United States," the Immigration and Customs Enforcement statement said.
The news had already been circulating online in the afternoon after a post on X by Bo Loudon, a conservative influencer and friend of Barron Trump, the US president's son. Loudon had described Lame as "a far-left TikToker," explaining that he had "reported him as an illegal immigrant." Loudon's post also provided a Homeland Security Agency detainee identification number.
Meanwhile, Khaby Lame has returned to Instagram after a few hours of absence. The 25-year-old posted a story to his 80 million followers showing a palm-fringed beach, similar to the one in Miami. The content creator was supposed to be attending a charity event in the Florida city at the time.
