Renowned American actor Val Kilmer, famous for his roles in Top Gun and Batman Forever, has died at the age of 65.
Kilmer died Thursday in Los Angeles of pneumonia, according to his daughter, Mercedes. He had been diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014 but had since recovered.
The actor landed his last major role in 2022, when he reprised his legendary character, Iceman, in Top Gun: Maverick, alongside Tom Cruise.
"I will miss you, friend. You were a fiery, brave and creative soul," actor Josh Brolin wrote in a farewell message, writes A2 CNN.
In 2021, Kilmer released the documentary Val, which chronicled the ups and downs of his life through personal recordings spanning four decades. The documentary debuted at the Cannes Film Festival and included footage of Kilmer speaking into a special device after surgery.
Val Kilmer was born on December 31, 1959, in Los Angeles. He became the youngest student to be accepted to the prestigious Juilliard School at the age of 17.
Kilmer left behind two children from his marriage to actress Joanne Whalley.
