Urgent call to 3.2 million Google Chrome users: Hackers on your computer, delete

Over three million Google Chrome users have received a warning about 16 browser “extensions” that are under the “control” of hackers. Cybersecurity experts urged users to delete them immediately, after it was discovered that hackers had inserted their codes. This allows hackers to steal user data and perform Google search diversions, leading clicks to pages that are under their control to generate advertising revenue, writes A2 CNN.

The list of compromised add-ons includes "Blipshot," "Emojis," "Color Changer for YouTube," "Video Effects for YouTube," and "Audio Enhancer," as well as other add-ons like "Mike Adblock for Chrome" and "Super Dark Mode." Installing them could lead to data theft and manipulation of users' online activity.

Additionally, the GitLab Threat Intelligence team noted that Chrome has removed these extensions from its Store, but users who downloaded them must remove them manually. Hackers have taken control of them using phishing attacks on their creators.

Experts advise that users carefully check the "permissions" that each add-on requires before installing it and read other users' comments to identify potential risks. (A2 Televizion)
