The letter from two American congresswomen, Claudia Tenney and Chrissy Houlahan, to President Donald Trump proposing mutual recognition between Kosovo and Serbia is seen as a positive development.
Experts in international relations say that the United States is realizing that only a final agreement between Pristina and Belgrade can close the hottest issue in the Western Balkans.
"This letter has proven that momentum is being created, so momentum is starting to be created for the most important point, which is the final agreement because even in the US they are tired of agreement after agreement. So they have understood that the main problem or the sustainable peace for which the EU and the US have invested a lot is not being solved," said Professor Dritëro Arifi, among other things.
However, this opportunity is leaving Kosovo without a new Assembly and Government that would serve to lobby the United States, as an interested party, to end this process in the best possible way.
A success in the international arena would also serve the Trump administration well, writes A2 CNN.
"A success story will be sought in US foreign policy, however, a success story will be sought, we are saying 'interruption' of a very long war or conflict, and reaching such an agreement in the middle of Trump's term or at the end of his term would be a very great achievement not only for the US but also for Europe itself," continued Professor Dritëro Arifi.
Europe would not oppose a final agreement after nearly a decade and a half of negotiations without any concrete results.
Meanwhile, Belgrade will also have to accept its fate that this process must end, where there will undoubtedly be compromises.
"If the US has analyzed it well and comes to a conclusion that an agreement should be made to provide a model for other conflicts, then neither Belgrade nor Pristina will be asked too many questions, they will sit at the table and be 'forced' to sign a final agreement, of course there will be compromises from both sides," said Professor Dritëro Arifi.
In their letter, the two congressmen share the view that a possible peace agreement and mutual recognition will create the conditions for a more stable and peaceful Balkans.
