Serbia has been rocked by the revelation of a plot to overthrow the government and force a change of power. The High Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade has filed indictments against six people, A2 reports.

Two of them are also charged with unauthorized possession and use of firearms and ammunition.

Among the defendants are Ivan Matović, an opposition figure from the city of Kraljevo, Novica Antic, former head of the Military Union of Serbia, as well as at least two war veterans who have expressed support for the student protests.

According to the Serbian Prosecutor's Office statement, there is a well-founded suspicion that on June 21, the accused met in a bar in Kraljevo where they planned to commit a criminal offense, namely they agreed and organized with others to take actions aimed at violating the constitutional order of Serbia.

The Belgrade Prosecutor's Office has also published a transcript of the conversation, which it says was recorded at the bar where the defendants were gathered. It discusses the organization of a protest on June 28 in Belgrade, the method of travel, the number of participants, and the actions to be taken.

According to the Prosecution, one of the accused is said to have said: "He enters, occupies the Government building, blocks it and does not leave it."

Also, on June 25, Ivan Matović allegedly contacted a person named Srdjan G. to discuss the trip to the protest and the steps to be taken.
On the same day, police stopped the vehicle driven by Ivan Matović and during the search found a CZ 765 pistol with an obliterated serial number, loaded with 7 bullets, as well as a box of 25 identical cartridges. (A2 Televizion)
