Students gather in Belgrade, Vučić 'shocked': The biggest protest in

Thousands of citizens took to the streets of Belgrade on Friday evening to welcome students who arrived in the Serbian capital on foot from the far reaches of the country, for a large protest to be held on Saturday.

Holding banners with the inscription "Students, Belgrade is yours", citizens welcomed the students to the capital with medals and flowers, writes A2 CNN.

Students, who have been blocking faculties across Serbia for more than three months, have called for a protest in Belgrade on March 15.

Saturday's rallies are expected to be the largest seen in Serbia in decades. Authorities expect between 60,000 and 80,000 protesters to arrive in the capital, President Aleksandar Vučić said.

Organizers say they expect much more. The students are demanding criminal and political accountability for the deaths of 15 people in the collapse of a shelter at the Novi Sad railway station on November 1, 2024. (A2 Televizion)
