The former Albanian deputy prime minister of North Macedonia, Artan Grubi, has finally withdrawn from politics, after being declared 'non grata' by the US State Department.
The news was made known by Grubi himself through an announcement on Facebook, where he writes that this is a difficult but necessary decision in the service of the common good.
He also adds that he is clean 'as a tear' and that his journey in politics has been to fulfill aspirations for close cooperation with European and American partners.
Artan Grub's reaction:
Personal decision in the service of the common good
Dear citizens,
All my public activity I have committed without compromise for the equality of the Albanians in North Macedonia, for a peaceful and reconciled region, for full integration in NATO, for a strategic partnership with the United States of America and for membership in the European Union. These are values that are not only my guide, but also the obligation I have always felt towards my country and my nation.
Our achievements, of which we are all witnesses, are not only the merits of my dedication and that of my friends, but also of the sincere and continuous support from our friends in the United States of America and the European Union.
The fact that today North Macedonia is a member of NATO and has started negotiations for membership in the European Union is a clear proof of this cooperation and common commitment.
But the price of this commitment, a price that has always been in the service of values and justice, has been heavy for me and my family.
The big attacks over the years, the misinterpretations and unfair strikes, have made me reflect on my role in this important moment for the country and for its future.
Although the decision says that this is not to condemn, but to encourage improvement of behavior, I, before God, family and friends, am pure as tears, but with the intention of revealing the truth, which many of you see as you already know , and in order not to be a political burden, I have decided to withdraw from public life and I have informed Mayor Ahmeti about this since the first day.
This is a difficult decision, but necessary to save my family and preserve my personal and political integrity, as well as to support the continuity of the work and dedication of our leader, Ali Ahmeti.
Believe in his right path, a path that has been and remains the greatest hope for Albanians and for all the citizens of North Macedonia.
I always remain committed to these values and will be by their side, as a citizen and as a supporter of the common good.
With respect and gratitude from the bottom of my heart for your support over the years,
Artan Grubi
