Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has chosen a doctor as the prime minister-designate to form a new government in Serbia. Gjuro Macut, a specialist in endocrinology, will serve as prime minister after the previous cabinet led by Vučević collapsed following massive protests sparked by the tragedy at the Novi Sad railway station.
Vučić emphasized that Macut possesses the necessary professional and personal qualities, as well as the expertise and dedication to perform the function of prime minister.
"He assured me that he can create a majority to elect a new government," Vučić said. The latter announced that the new government will be elected on April 18, as he emphasized, on Good Friday, before Easter.
According to him, the country will have a difficult task ahead of it to cope with all the pressures in regional politics, the tax issue with the US, the acceleration on the European path, and at the same time preserve its traditional friends in the east. "Serbia needs peace more than ever," he added.
The Serbian president previously held consultations with parliamentary parties on the candidate for the new government, consultations which were boycotted by the opposition, which demanded the creation of an interim government.
During the conference in Belgrade where he announced the new Serbian government's prime minister, Vučić also announced that he will meet with US President Donald Trump in the US, likely in early May. (A2 Televizion)
