A drone strike from Ukraine killed an 85-year-old woman and injured nine people in the Russian city of Kursk, near the border with Ukraine, Russian regional authorities said on April 15.
"Kursk has become the object of a massive attack by the enemy at night," a post from the Kursk regional administration on Telegram said.
Several apartments in a multi-storey building caught fire as a result of the drone strike, acting mayor Sergei Kotlyarov said on Telegram. He added that residents had been evacuated to a nearby school.
The drones also hit an ambulance garage, leaving 11 vehicles damaged, according to the regional administration.
More than 20 explosions hit the city, according to Telegram channels Baza and SHOT, which often publish information from sources within security services and law enforcement.
These claims have not been independently verified, and Ukraine has not commented on Russia's accusation so far. Both sides deny targeting civilians.
Ukrainian troops carried out an incursion into the Kursk region in August, but Russian forces have succeeded in recent months in pushing Ukrainian troops across the border.
The April 15 attack follows a missile strike by Russia on April 13 that left at least 34 people dead in the Ukrainian city of Sumy, the capital of the Sumy region, which borders Russia's Kursk region.
Ukraine's state emergency service said two children were among those killed in the attack, which occurred as Ukrainians celebrated a holy day. At least 117 other people - including 15 children - were injured.
Officials from around the world condemned Russia and President Vladimir Putin on April 14.
European officials accused Russia of committing a war crime, while American officials, from President Donald Trump to several Republican and Democratic lawmakers, expressed horror at the death and destruction caused by the second major attack that killed Ukrainian civilians within ten days./ REL (A2 Televizion)
