Today, Turkey is in a period of national mourning, declared to honor the 76 people who tragically lost their lives in a fire at a ski resort.
Flames engulfed the 12-story Grand Kartal Hotel in Bolu, where 234 people were staying. The fire started at 3:30 a.m. and took 12 hours to put out. An investigation has been launched into the tragedy, and there have been conflicting reports about whether the hotel met safety standards.
Nine people have been arrested so far, including the hotel owner. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan visited the town of Bolu and promised that those responsible for negligence would be held accountable. Flags across Turkey were flown at half-mast in memory of the fire victims, and funerals were held for some of them.
Rescue teams are continuing their search, while it is noted that it is very difficult to identify the victims. (A2 Televizion)
