Is Ukraine in danger of losing the war? The US Congress does not unblock aid

The fate of the war in Ukraine plunges into even more troubled waters, as the American Congress is unable to overcome the impasse to unlock vital aid for the warring state.

Concerns were further fueled after President Volodymyr Zelenskiy canceled a high-profile video conference with the US Congress, during which he would have tried to persuade lawmakers to give the green light to the new $106 billion package proposed by Biden.

His virtual speeches in the Senate and House of Representatives were scheduled for Tuesday, but were canceled at the last minute.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer did not explain why Zelenskiy chose not to speak to Congress, but said Kiev desperately needed the help.

Republicans condition the support of the pact on the tightening of border controls.

Some also claim that the president has not addressed legitimate congressional concerns about the lack of a clear strategy in Ukraine to provide assurances to American taxpayers.

Zelenskiy's decision to cancel the video conference came after his chief of staff Andriy Yermak warned that Kiev risked losing the war against Russia if new aid was not approved.

Earlier, such a conclusion had come from the White House, which warned of Ukraine's kneeling before Russia, if by the end of the year no action was taken on military support.

The funding impasse comes as fighting on the war front is at a standstill. The Ukrainian counteroffensive in the south appears to have slowed as Kiev's forces struggle to maintain a foothold east of the Dnipro River. (A2 Televizion)
