Israel's government confirms that an initial group of 13 hostages have been freed by Hamas militants. All are from Kibbutz Nir Oz and have been handed over to Red Cross humanitarian workers.
Meanwhile, Hamas militants have also released 12 Thai citizens who were held in the Gaza Strip. An Israeli official said a total of 39 Palestinian prisoners would be released on Friday. A total of 50 hostages will be released during the four-day ceasefire, while 150 Palestinian prisoners are also expected to be freed. Humanitarian aid has started arriving in Gaza as part of the ceasefire, with much-needed fuel being flown into Palestinian land from Egypt.
Israel's defense minister has vowed to continue fighting "vigorously" after the brief ceasefire, saying he expects at least two more months of fighting. Israel heavily bombed sites in Gaza on Thursday, while some civilians accused Tel Aviv's army of firing on them on Friday. (A2 Televizion)
