Today, Istanbul has been engulfed in massive protests and clashes, following the cancellation of the mayor's rank and CHP presidential candidate, Ekrem Imamoglu, and his arrest on Wednesday morning.
According to foreign media, despite the ban, university students gathered to protest. Police tried to block the march, but thousands of protesters, chanting pro-democracy slogans, managed to break through the police blockade, writes A2 CNN.
It is also learned that outside the main gate, students called on other students to defend their democratic rights and freedoms. The march then headed towards the city hall in the Saratchane area.
Students from other universities in Istanbul also participated in the mobilization. Turkish police stopped the protesters in front of the School of Economics, writes A2 CNN.
The situation remains tense, while students declare that they will continue their protests in the coming days.
