Two British citizens have been arrested in Iran on charges of espionage, foreign media report.
It concerns Craig and Lindsay Foreman, arrested in January, but news of their detention, on unspecified security charges, emerged last week.
A judiciary spokesman said the couple, both aged 52, had "entered Iran under the guise of tourists" and "collected information in multiple provinces of the country".
The couple moved from East Sussex to start a new life in Andalucia, Spain, in 2019 and appeared in an episode of Channel 4's "A New Life in the Sun" in 2022 to showcase their lives as immigrants.
The couple, both 52, had been on a motorcycle trip around the world and had planned to stay in Iran for five days.
Mr and Mrs Foreman were heading to Australia on their trip around the world and had crossed into Iran from Armenia on December 30 and planned to be in Pakistan by January 4.
In a series of social media posts before they were arrested, the couple described their joy at being in Iran.
Lindsay Foreman, a blogger with a PhD in psychology, said she was "having a wonderful time."
Her husband Craig, who is a carpenter, spoke of the "loving people" of a "beautiful place."
Couple held in Iran need 'immediate' action in UK, says Nazanin's husband.
The spokesman who announced the charges said the couple had been under surveillance by provincial intelligence agencies and "were subsequently arrested as part of a coordinated intelligence operation."
"These individuals collaborated with front organizations linked to the intelligence services of hostile and Western countries under the pretext of research and investigative activities," he further said. (A2 Televizion)
