As US President Donald Trump changes his approach to the war in Ukraine, increasing pressure on Russia, the latter is calling on him to exert pressure on Kiev to agree to the continuation of peace negotiations.

Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said something like this, while commenting on Trump's statements that he was disappointed with President Putin: "Many statements have been made, many words have been said about disappointment, but we want to hope that in parallel pressure will be exerted on the Ukrainian side, as now it seems that Kiev is interpreting every word of support not as a signal for peace, but for the continuation of the war."

Amid reports that he encouraged the Ukrainian leader to strike Moscow and St. Petersburg, US President Donald Trump told reporters at the White House that such a thing should not happen. According to him, Zelensky should not strike Moscow and Vladimir Putin must agree to a ceasefire within 50 days, or else sanctions will come into effect.

The Republican made a significant shift in his stance on Monday when he green-lighted the delivery of heavy weapons to Kiev, including the much-needed Patriot systems. He announced that Patriot missiles have already been sent from Germany to Ukraine.

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas welcomed Trump's plan but said he should not take credit for the aid if the US is unwilling to share the burden. Commenting on the statement, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said the EU was financing the deaths of Ukrainians by paying for US weapons to be sent to Kiev.

The Kremlin insists that no amount of Western military aid will change Moscow's main goals in the conflict.   (A2 Televizion)
