The United Kingdom of Great Britain has announced the largest package of sanctions against Russia since 2022.
According to foreign media, it is reported that previously, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said that the package would be Britain's largest against Russia since the early days of the war in Ukraine.
Described as a "historic package," the sanctions target "Russian military supply chains, the revenues that fuel Putin's illegal war, and the kleptocrats who drive profits for the Kremlin," according to a government announcement.
"The sanctions will also target Russia's military machine, entities in third countries that support it, and the fragile supply networks on which it relies," he further said.
The sanctions target around 40 ships carrying Russian oil, which the UK says have collectively transported more than $5 billion worth of Russian oil and petroleum products in the past six months alone.
The specifications bring the total number of oil tankers sanctioned by the UK to 133, the highest of any nation in Europe.
Individuals have also been hit with sanctions, some of whom the UK says are "opposing strategic sectors of Russia's economy", including one of the country's richest men Roman Trotsenko, worth an estimated £2.2bn. (A2 Televizion)
