Prior to the phone conversation between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, foreign media reported that the Russian president addressed business leaders in Moscow today.
Putin accused Ukraine's allies of wanting to "weaken" Russia, adding that "our competitors will always want to weaken us and keep us under control."
He also said that reports say Western sanctions against Russia could eventually be eased if Ukraine's security is guaranteed, writes A2 CNN.
"Even if one side makes a gesture and offers, removes or facilitates something, another method to cause problems for us will be found immediately," he said further, writes A2 CNN.
