Preparations to host a meeting between Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin are now underway, according to CNN.
CNN says there is a "renewed optimism" in Moscow that negotiations to end the war in Ukraine will now take second place, to "potentially lucrative" US-Russia economic deals.
However, it is reported that these discussions are now taking place behind closed doors, writes A2 CNN.
Recall that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov led the first round of US-Russia talks last month in Saudi Arabia, leaving Ukraine aside.
President Trump has pledged to reach a peace agreement in Ukraine, after discussions with the leaders of the two countries.
Trump has also asked President Volodymyr Zelensky for a minerals deal, which would allow the US access to billions of dollars in Ukraine's underground resources.
The White House meeting between Trump and Zelensky went badly, with the situation tense with the US President harshly criticizing his Ukrainian counterpart. (A2 Televizion)
