A real drama has been recorded in the Calabria region of Italy. A 53-year-old Italian woman and her Senegalese partner kidnapped a newborn from a maternity ward, but fortunately the story had a happy ending.
It all happened at a maternity hospital in the city of Cozensa, where a 53-year-old woman pretended to be a nurse and asked the mother to give her a few minutes to change the diaper of the girl who had been born just the day before and to take her to the pediatrician for a visit.
The alleged nurse, her face covered with a mask, left with the baby. Her Senegalese partner was waiting for her in an adjacent maternity ward corridor. They put the newborn in a stroller they had brought from their home and disappeared.
After a few minutes, when the girl's 27-year-old mother realized what had happened, the alarm was raised, with police and carabinieri blocking all roads leading to Cozensa.
Thanks to security cameras, police were able to locate the couple, who live approximately 15 kilometers from the maternity hospital. They were arrested and the newborn was immediately returned to its parents.
"Thank you everyone, within a few hours, with this story, we died and were resurrected," the parents wrote on their social media accounts.
Twenty-four hours earlier, the two kidnappers had posted a photo online, in which only the baby's hands were visible, announcing that they had given birth to a boy and had organized a party near their home, inviting relatives and friends.
The 53-year-old Italian woman even pretended to be pregnant for nine months, using various tricks. In the end, the investigation revealed that, just hours before the kidnapping, they had attempted to take another newborn from the same maternity ward, but his mother had refused to hand him over to the suspected nurse, who insisted that she should wash him and change his diaper.
