A Russian drone has reportedly damaged the protective enclosure of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine, causing panic among Ukrainians. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported such a fact on Platform X on Friday. The increase in radiation levels has not been detected so far, Zelensky and the International Atomic Energy Agency stressed.
The situation is being monitored constantly, the Ukrainian president said. However, according to an initial assessment, the damage is considerable. The only country in the world that attacks such places, seizes nuclear power plants and wages war regardless of the consequences is Russia, he wrote. "This is a terrorist threat to the whole world."
The Kremlin, for its part, has denied a Russian attack on the nuclear power plant. "The exact circumstances of the attack are unknown," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
"I know one thing: It cannot happen that attacks are carried out against any nuclear infrastructure facility or nuclear energy infrastructure. Therefore, all these claims are false. The Russian military does not do such things," Peskov noted.
Meanwhile, from Munich, attending the Security Conference, US Vice President JD Vance has threatened Russia with sanctions and possible military action if Russian President Vladimir Putin does not agree to a long-term peace agreement that guarantees Ukraine's independence.
"There are economic levers and, of course, military levers" that the US could use against Putin, Vance said in the interview with the Wall Street Journal.
Vance added that the option of sending US troops to Ukraine, if negotiations fail, will be a controversial option that will be considered in the coming weeks. Vance thus rejected the claim of US Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegsesh, not to send military troops to Ukraine.
Following the interview, Vance encouraged German political parties to cooperate with the far-right German party, the AfD. He also wants to call for an embrace of growing anti-establishment politics, a return to traditional values, and an end to immigrant crime. (A2 Televizion)
