Chinese state media has welcomed United States President Donald Trump's decision to cut public funding for Voice of America and Radio Free Asia, which have long reported on authoritarian regimes.
The latest decision affects thousands of employees, with about 1,300 employees placed on paid leave at the Voice of America alone since Friday's executive order.
Critics have called the move a blow to democracy, but Beijing's state-run Global Times newspaper denounced the Voice of America for its "appalling record" in reporting on China and said it "has now been dismissed by its own government like a dirty rag."
The White House defended the measure, saying it aims to ensure taxpayers are no longer exposed to radical propaganda. (A2 Televizion)
