"Geminid" reaches its peak, over 150 "stars" will fall from

If you are fond of the "events" of the sky, then you should mark Tuesday on our calendar. Tuesday evening marks the peak of the Geminid meteor shower.

Otherwise known as the "King of Meteor Showers", Geminids almost always puts on a show. The Geminid "stars" have started falling since December 4th and will continue to visit the sky until December 20th, but the peak is expected on the 14th-15th.

During the peak, over 150 meteors are predicted to burst into our atmosphere every hour.

Remember that meteors are produced when pieces or debris from comets or asteroids enter the atmosphere of our planet. Traveling at a speed of 70 km per second, comet debris begins to vaporize as it hits the atmosphere thus creating light in the night sky.

The Geminids come from an asteroid known as 3200 Phaethon.

“Unlike comets, asteroids do not form tails when they approach the sun because their composition is different,” explains the Royal Greenwich Museums.

When it peaks at 20:27 on Tuesday, the number of meteors each hour could reach over 150. (A2 Televizion)
