The death toll from the devastating earthquake that struck Myanmar on Friday, which was so powerful it was felt in Thailand and Pakistan, has risen to 1,644.
As rescue operations continue in both Myanmar and Thailand, the Burmese junta confirms that 3,408 people have been injured while 139 are still considered missing.
In Mandalay, the city closest to the earthquake's epicenter, 90 people are thought to be trapped under an apartment building, while over 1,500 homes have been damaged.
Operations are ongoing to find survivors among the large piles of rubble.
The international community has provided humanitarian aid and support to both Myanmar and Thailand.
The earthquake struck Mandalay at 6:20 a.m. Friday. The main tremor was registered as a magnitude 7.7 earthquake by the United States Geological Survey.
It was relatively shallow, about 10 km, meaning its effect was felt more strongly at the surface than a deeper earthquake would be. (A2 Televizion)
