Jeff Bezos, the billionaire founder of space company Blue Origin, faced an embarrassing moment on Monday after collapsing in front of cameras while trying to meet his girlfriend, Lauren Sánchez, and members of the first all-female crew to travel to space in 60 years.
The incident occurred shortly after the successful return of the New Shepard rocket, which made an 11-minute flight into space. As the capsule successfully landed in the Texas desert, Bezos tried to get to the capsule door first to welcome the crew, but tripped and fell facedown.
On board the rocket were well-known names such as Lauren Sánchez, Katy Perry, Gayle King, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, filmmaker Kieranne Flynn, and NASA scientist Aisha Bowe.
This flight represents a historic moment for women's involvement in space and was described as emotional and inspiring by participants.
After landing, Katy Perry kicked off the celebration by sitting on the ground and kissing the Texas soil. "It was an unforgettable experience," she said, pointing to a daisy flower. "Daisies are common and grow in any conditions. They are strong, powerful and durable."
Gayle King described the experience as “calm and peaceful .” Even though she is now officially an astronaut, she still feels overwhelmed by the idea. “I can’t believe I’m an astronaut.”
The event was attended by a packed audience of celebrities, including Oprah Winfrey, who couldn't hold back her tears as she watched her close friend Gayle soar into the sky. Members of the Kardashian family were also in attendance. Khloe Kardashian told Blue Origin media: "It's unbelievable. It takes your breath away."
Despite Bezos' embarrassing moment, the mission was considered a tremendous success for commercial space exploration and the empowerment of women in the field. (A2 Televizion)
