United States President Donald Trump has said that Chinese-made smartphones and other electronic devices will not be exempt from tariffs.
According to foreign media, Trump said regarding the tariffs, that the taxation system is simply changing, but they have not been completely removed.
European stock markets rose on Monday morning after Friday's official announcement that some of these products would escape taxes of up to 145%, writes A2 CNN.
China has called on Donald Trump to "completely cancel" his tariff regime and "return to the right path of mutual respect".
However, US officials said on Sunday that the products would be subject to a "semiconductor tariff," with Trump expected to reveal more details later, writes A2 CNN.
US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said the new tax would be in addition to a series of global tariffs that the US imposed earlier this month but which were then suspended for 90 days.
