"Iran cannot have nuclear weapons", new round of Tehran-Washington

Iran and the US will hold a new round of talks in Rome on Saturday in an attempt to resolve a decades-old dispute over Tehran's nuclear ambitions, as Donald Trump threatens military strike if diplomacy fails.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and Trump's Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff will negotiate indirectly through an Omani official who will relay messages between the two sides. The talks in Rome follow a first round held in Muscat, which was described as constructive by few.

Arakchi and Witkoff had a brief interaction at the end of the first round, but officials from the two countries have not held direct talks since 2015, under the leadership of former President Barack Obama.

In a post on social media, the Iranian foreign ministry spokesman said that the path to a solution is not easy, but that they would take every step with open eyes and based on past experiences. Meanwhile, Trump reiterated on Friday that Iran could not have nuclear weapons and that he would prevent such a thing. (A2 Televizion)
