Israel says it has attacked Hezbollah targets in Lebanon

Israel said it had carried out airstrikes on sites used by Hezbollah to produce and store missiles in Lebanon.

Israel has attacked Lebanon several times, despite a ceasefire reached in November last year.

Hezbollah has been designated a terrorist group by the United States. Meanwhile, the European Union has blacklisted the Lebanese group's military wing, but not its political party.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said the targets included "Hezbollah's largest precision missile production center," while the Israeli military said it had struck "infrastructure used for the production and storage of strategic weapons" in southern Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley.

"Any attempt by the terrorist organization to recover, reorganize or threaten will be met with ruthless intensity," Katz vowed.

Lebanon's state news agency also reported attacks in the Bekaa, which is located in the east, but also in the south.

Both Minister Katz and the Israeli military accused Hezbollah of trying to rebuild its military infrastructure and called for the Lebanese army to intervene to disarm the group.

"Among the targets hit were explosives production sites used for Hezbollah's weaponry development, as well as an underground building for the production and storage of strategic weapons," the Israeli military said.

"The terrorist organization Hezbollah attempted to rebuild facilities and capacities, actions that constitute a violation of agreements between Israel and Lebanon," the Israeli military said.

Earlier, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun declared that his country is determined to disarm Hezbollah, for which it is under great pressure from the US, despite the group's objections, which claims that such a move would serve Israeli interests.

Hezbollah and Israel fought a two-month war last year, which inflicted heavy losses on the group, but it continues to have some of its arsenal./ REL (A2 Televizion)
