Israel's parliament, the Knesset, approved on Monday evening the extension of the country's state of emergency until December 16, 2025, in accordance with the recommendations of the security cabinet.
This has been reported by the local media, which add that one of the other decisions of the Knesset was the increase of funds for the army.
The bill raises Israel's deficit limit and expands the 2024 budget by several billion to cover defense spending.
The bill passed the second and third readings in the Knesset with 62 votes in favor and 52 against. It raises Israel's deficit limit to 7.7 percent of gross domestic product, from the current limit of 6.6 percent.
Raising the cap would allow the government to add about $9 billion to the 2024 budget, with the vast majority of those funds for defense spending. (A2 Televizion)
