US President Donald Trump has made harsh threats to the Hamas leadership. The terrorist organization must immediately release all hostages and also hand over all bodies of slain Israelis, "or you will be finished," Trump wrote on his "Social Truth" platform.
"I am sending Israel everything they need to get the job done. No member of Hamas will be safe unless you do what I say. This is your final warning!" Trump wrote. Now is the time for the Hamas leadership to leave the Gaza Strip while they still have the chance.
Addressing the population, the American president wrote: "You have a wonderful future ahead of you, but not if you hold hostages. If you do, you're dead." The people must make a "wise decision" and release the hostages or they will pay for it later, writes A2 CNN.
Hamas criticized the US president's statements. The Islamic terrorist organization wrote on its Telegram channel: "These threats complicate matters regarding the ceasefire agreement and encourage the occupying power (Israel) to evade its obligations."
The US government recently confirmed that, contrary to its long-standing policy, it was negotiating directly with Hamas for the first time. There have been direct talks between US hostage envoy Adam Boehler and Hamas over the release of American hostages. “We have consulted with Israel on this issue,” White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt told reporters on Wednesday. “Israel has expressed its view on direct talks with Hamas,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said. Hamas also confirmed the talks.
So far, Israel and Hamas have been unable to agree on terms for extending the ceasefire. According to Israeli information, the Islamic organization still holds 24 hostages and 35 bodies of the kidnapped. Five of them also have American citizenship - only one of them, a young man, is still alive, according to Israeli sources. (A2 Televizion)
