A dramatic video shows the terrifying moment 92 people were trapped on board a cruise ship that was engulfed in flames.
The fire on the "Catamaran Tayrona" was caused by an electrical spark in one of the engines and quickly spread throughout the ship as it was sailing near Santa Marta in Colombia. 89 tourists and 3 crew members were forced to evacuate and were filmed jumping from the ship as it was engulfed in flames, writes A2 CNN.
Black smoke could be seen billowing into the sky in a video captured by another ship as passengers swam in panic to escape the burning ship. One of the passengers, Carlos Gutierrez, said: "We were told to stay calm, but when we saw the smoke and the fire, panic gripped everyone and we had only one goal, to save ourselves by jumping into the sea." He said several people were injured when they jumped into the water or tried to swim to lifeboats.
Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported, and an investigation has been opened to determine the cause of the fire. (A2 Televizion)
