A respiratory crisis has passed, Pope Francis' health condition remains

Pope Francis' condition remains "critical" after suffering a "prolonged asthma-like respiratory crisis."

The Vatican confirmed this. The Pope is "worse than the day before" and has received a blood transfusion, the statement said, writes A2 CNN.

The Vatican said the 88-year-old was conscious but required a "high flow" of oxygen and his prognosis "remains guarded".

The pope is being treated for pneumonia in both lungs at the Gemelli hospital in Rome. The blood transfusion was deemed necessary due to a low platelet count, which is mainly related to anemia, the Vatican said.

"The condition of the Holy Father remains critical. The Pope is not out of danger," a statement said, writes A2 CNN.

Cardinal Pietro Parolin has issued a statement to address some rumors that were spreading about a possible resignation of Pope Francis.

"Everything seems to me like useless speculation. Now we are thinking about the health of the Holy Father, his recovery, his return to the Vatican: these are the only things that matter," the cardinal underlined. (A2 Televizion)
