According to the Reuters news agency, citing Taiwanese security sources, China has deployed more than 90 navy and coast guard vessels. The Beijing government did not immediately confirm the information, but stated that it would resolutely protect Chinese sovereignty.
In response, the Taiwanese military set up emergency centers and also activated "combat readiness exercises" in strategic locations. Taiwanese navy and coast guard vessels are supposed to monitor Chinese vessels.
"Any unilateral, irrational and provocative action could seriously harm peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific and will not be appreciated by the international community," Taiwan's Ministry of Defense said.
