Romanian-Ukrainian "conspiracy", 29-year-old arrested for arson

A Romanian national arrested at Luton Airport on Saturday has been charged in connection with three suspected arson attacks on property and a car linked to British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer.

Stanislav Carpiuc, 26, from Romford, will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court this morning. He is charged with conspiracy along with Ukrainian Roman Lavrynovych, as well as three counts of arson with intent to endanger life in connection with the fires.

Carpiuc was detained following an investigation by officers from the Metropolitan Counter Terrorism Command and is the second suspect to be charged over the fires at Starmer's properties.

Two of the fires took place in Kentish Town, one on May 12 at the house where Sir Keir lived before he became Prime Minister. A car was set on fire in the same street four days before this attack.

The third fire occurred on May 11 at the front door of a house converted into apartments in Islington.

In connection with these events, a 34-year-old man was arrested on Monday in the Chelsea area, SW3, on suspicion of conspiracy to commit arson with intent to endanger life. He remains in police custody.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian Roman Lavrynovych, from Sydenham in south London, appeared in court on Friday.

Roman Lavrynovych bought fuel from B&Q a few days before carrying out the three attacks. He is accused of setting fire to the Prime Minister's £2m property in north London in the early hours of Monday, after previously burning a car and other property previously owned by the British prime minister.
