The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, was at Sana'a International Airport when it was targeted by an airstrike. This was announced by the head of WHO himself in a post on Thursday on X.
“As we were about to board our flight from Sana'a, about two hours ago, the airport was bombed from the air. One of the crew members of our aircraft was injured. At least two people were reported killed at the airport. The air traffic control tower, the place of departures, just a few meters from where we were and the runway was damaged."
He said his UN and WHO colleagues were safe and would have to wait for the damage to the airport to be repaired before leaving.
He further added: "Our heartfelt condolences to the families whose loved ones lost their lives in the attack."
Hamas has also released a statement condemning Israeli attacks on Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen. A statement from the group, shared by AFP, said:
"Hamas condemns the brutal terrorist aggression carried out by the Zionist enemy against our brothers from Yemen, targeting civilian sites, including the airport of Sana'a and the port of Hodeida." (A2 Televizion)
