A Russian surface-to-air missile or its fragments caused the plane to crash from Azerbaijan in Aktau on Wednesday. This is what Azerbaijani government sources claim, who state that the missile was launched during aerial drone activity over Grozny and its fragments hit the plane with flight number 8432.
Even the Azerbaijani government claims that the damaged plane was not allowed by the Russian authorities to land at no airport despite the pilots' requests to make an emergency landing at three Russian airports. They are believed to have been ordered to fly across the Caspian Sea to Aktau, Kazakhstan.
The map shows the three airports ( three red circles ) in which the request was made by the pilots for an emergency landing, before the plane ( in the yellow circle ) finally continued on its way to Aktau.
According to evidence, the plane's GPS navigation systems were jammed all the way over the sea. In total, 38 passengers were killed and 29 others survived when the plane crashed near the city of Aktau.
Russia through Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov claims that the investigation into the cause of the plane crash is ongoing and it is wrong to speculate before it is complete. Meanwhile, NATO today demanded a full investigation into the causes of the crash of the Azerbaijan Airlines plane.
Meanwhile, the media have also published the pilot's last messages before the plane crashed.
" I'm losing control ," the pilot said before the Embraer crashed in Kazakhstan on Christmas Day, according to the Daily Mail.
At the same time, the passengers made the last video call with their loved ones shortly before the tragedy.
Dialogue between the pilot and the control tower before the plane crashed:
8:12
Pilot: “Both GPSs lost. We need directions back to the take-off airport in Baku.”
8:16
Pilot: "We lost control, collided with birds in the cabin. Cockpit crash (unintelligible)..."
Control Tower: "AXY8243, we understand. What kind of help do you need?'
Pilot: "We will return to Baku".
But at 8:17, the pilot announced that he was " heading to Mineralnye Vody " - an airfield in southern Russia.
Pilot: "We're going to Mineralnye Vody."
Control Tower: "Make a left turn."
Pilot: "Can't run, lost control!"
8:19
Pilot: "I can't maintain 150 (speed knots). We have high pressure in the cabin".
Control Tower: "AXY8243, understood."
8:20
Pilot: "360 degree left turn, we're losing control."
8:21
Pilot: "We're going to Makhachkala." (a Russian airfield on the Caspian Sea)
8:22
Pilot: "Now we have a hydraulic problem."
8:24
The pilot: "We have not declared a state of emergency."
Control Tower: "We can barely hear... how high are you?"
The plane then disappeared from radar for 37 minutes before making its final attempt to land.
