Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission, has told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the best solution to the Iran issue remains diplomacy.
In a phone call with Netanyahu, Von der Leyen also added that she "agrees that Iran should not have a nuclear weapon."
Von der Leyen has previously criticized Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip, but in her statement she emphasized that Iran's non-compliance with the requirements of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) gives Israel the right to defend itself.
"Iran is the main source of instability in the region," Von der Leyen added, A2 writes.
The President of the European Commission is in Canada to attend the G7 Summit, where the conflict between Israel and Iran is expected to be discussed, along with Russia's aggression against Ukraine.
