European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen held a telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, following the escalation of conflicts between Israel and Iran.
According to foreign media, it is known that von der Leyen stressed the urgent need for a negotiated solution to the crisis with Iran and for reducing tensions in the Middle East.
"I reaffirmed our commitment to peace and stability. Israel has the right to defend itself, but escalation must be avoided. Iran is the main source of regional instability, and must not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons. A diplomatic solution must be found as soon as possible," von der Leyen wrote on the 'X' platform.
She also raised concern about the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, describing it as "unacceptable" and called on Netanyahu to guarantee full access for humanitarian aid and show restraint in military actions.
We recall that in addition to the continuous bombing by Israel, the population in Gaza is also suffering from a hunger crisis. (A2 Televizion)
