Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has responded to Germany's Chancellor, who said that Western allies have lifted range restrictions on weapons supplied to Ukraine.
According to foreign media, Lavrov criticized European leaders and said that this action illustrates the level of competence of those who have risen to power in Europe.
He also said that the decision was made a long time ago, but was kept secret, writes A2 CNN.
Recall that the US under President Joe Biden allowed Ukraine to launch air strikes on Russian territory last year, which were followed by the United Kingdom and France. The decision was public at the time.
Merz has somewhat retracted his comments from yesterday, saying today that he was talking about a decision made months ago.
Lavrov to Europe: 'Stop sabotaging the path to peace'
Lavrov continued his criticism of Europe, accusing it of trying to disrupt the negotiation process to end the war.
"If the war stops, their political careers will be over, they are putting their personal interests above their people," he said, writes A2 CNN.
But addressing Donald Trump, Lavrov used a different tone.
"Trump wants results and when he sees that his efforts are being sabotaged by the Europeans, of course his rhetoric changes," he added.
"But we should not see the rhetoric that Europe needs to stop sabotaging the path to peace," Lavrov continued.
As we have reported, Russia has stepped up its airstrikes on Ukraine. The largest airstrike of the war was launched in recent days.
This prompted Trump to describe Putin's escalation of attacks as "crazy."
Lavrov's comments are clearly intended to keep the American president on alert.
