Doctors raise alarm over mysterious disease in Africa: It has killed 50 people

A deadly disease has struck the Democratic Republic of Congo, killing those infected just hours after the first symptoms appear.

This situation has caused great concern among health professionals. In this context, the WHO has announced a new outbreak that has occurred in the northwest of the country, causing the death of 50 people since the onset of symptoms. WHO doctors and researchers have analyzed the spread of the disease and have noted that there is a high mortality rate within two days of the onset of symptoms. Serge Ngalebato, medical director of Bikoro Hospital, expressed his concern about the speed of deaths and described the situation as “realistically worrying”.

WHO doctors are concerned that the virus may have been transmitted to animals, something that could seriously endanger human health. Since the outbreak of the epidemic on January 21, 419 cases and 53 deaths have been recorded, which indicates a shocking mortality rate of 12.49 percent. This whole crisis erupted in the town of Boloko, after three children had consumed wild fruits and died of hemorrhagic fever within 48 hours. This is one of the main risks that increases the possibility of the disease spreading, since in these areas the consumption of wildlife is very common, writes A2 CNN.

The spread of disease on the African continent is on the rise. So much so, that the World Health Organization reported in 2022 that the number of disease outbreaks in Africa had increased by more than 60 percent in the past decade. After an outbreak of an unidentified disease was reported in the town of Bomate on February 9, samples from 13 cases were sent to the National Institute of Biomedical Research in Kinshasa for analysis.

In this regard, the WHO informed that all samples were negative for the detection of Ebola and other hemorrhagic diseases that are quite common in the area, such as Marburg fever, although some were positive for malaria tests. (A2 Televizion)
