Bad weather has engulfed Italy. Italian media reports that the most affected regions are Tuscany and Liguria with heavy rain and flooding, while firefighters and municipal police have had to intervene in several different centers.
In Chiavari in Genoa, the Entella river burst its banks, flooding the area, while a landslide in Val Fontanabuona caused the evacuation of four families as a precaution.
In Florence, heavy rain and strong winds caused traffic problems in the city, with trams (lines T1 and T2) forced to stop. In some areas, such as Soffiano, roads were submerged, with drivers forced to remain stranded in their vehicles. The municipality reported several interventions due to flooding of roads in various areas of the city, from Oltrarno to Galluzzo.
Mayor Sara Funaro has appealed to citizens to be careful when traveling.
"Be careful when traveling. A strong and unexpected storm has hit Florence and the metropolitan city. Several underpasses and roads have been affected by flooding. The situation is under control and improving," the mayor underlined.
The bad weather is affecting the entire Tuscany region, moving from the Livorno coast towards the provinces of Empoli, Pistoia and Prato. The region has issued an orange alert for the northern areas, while forecasts indicate that the instability could continue in the coming hours.
Meanwhile, Liguria has moved from red to orange and yellow alert. In the last 24-36 hours, very heavy rainfall has been recorded in the eastern center of Liguria and strong winds of over 100-120 km/h. (A2 Televizion)
