What happened over the Baltic Sea? RAF fighters tried to intercept Russian

RAF fighter jets were scrambled earlier this week to protect NATO airspace from Russian fighter jets.

According to foreign media, the news has also been confirmed by the British Ministry of Defense. The ministry explains that the two Typhoons took off from Malbork air base in Poland on April 15 to intercept a Russian intelligence aircraft over the Baltic Sea.

The Ministry of Defense also adds that, on April 17, two other Typhoons attempted from the base to intercept an unknown aircraft leaving Kaliningrad airspace, close to NATO airspace.

It is the first time the RAF has been called into action under Operation 'Chess', a new NATO mission to strengthen Europe's air defences, involving cooperation between Polish, Swedish and British forces. (A2 Televizion)
