Turkey is nearing the end of developing a powerful new weapon for its armed forces. The IHA-230 air-to-surface ballistic missile has been created by the Turkish company Roketsan.
This advanced missile represents a significant step in increasing air attack capabilities, especially for unmanned aerial vehicles (drones). The IHA-230 missile is based on the existing TRG-230 surface-to-surface model, but has been adapted for air launch.
The first test was carried out in December 2022 by the AKINCI TİHA combat drone, which flew from Tsorlou towards the Sinop test range. From an altitude of 7.6 km, it successfully launched the missile, which hit the target at a distance of over 100 kilometers.
The IHA-230 has a range of over 150 kilometers, depending on launch altitude and speed. Weighing 225 kg and measuring 3.4 meters in length, the missile carries a 42 kg warhead with fragmentation, penetrating or thermobaric options, depending on the target.
After launch, the rocket initially free falls and then activates its solid-fuel engine. It is guided by a GNSS guidance system and inertial navigation, ensuring high accuracy and resistance to electronic interference.
The IHA-230 missile targets strategic targets such as radars, communication centers, armored vehicles, and air defense systems.
Its "fire-and-forget" technology makes it suitable for critical missions without the need to penetrate enemy territory. It is also difficult to neutralize by conventional air defenses. (A2 Televizion)
