Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in a new statement about the attack on Iran, clarified that Tel Aviv had informed the United States of its plans in advance.
" I'm leaving the American position to the Americans. We informed them in advance. They knew about the attack. What are they going to do now? I'll leave that to President Trump. He makes decisions independently, " Netanyahu said.
He declined to speak on behalf of Trump, but noted that the US president had previously said that Iran cannot have nuclear weapons or the capacity to enrich uranium.
Trump himself confirmed earlier in the day that he had been informed of the attack before it took place. The US president said, among other things, that he had given Tehran more chances to reach an agreement with the United States on Iran's nuclear program, but that they had not agreed to the deal.
He also recalled that he had warned Iran that the locations of its nuclear facilities would be attacked if it did not reach an agreement with the US.
In a statement to ABC television, Trump stressed that Israel's attack on Iran was "great" and that there would be more attacks. When asked if the United States participated in the attack in any way, Trump replied that he did not want to comment on that.
Israel launched strikes on Iran overnight, saying it was targeting nuclear facilities, ballistic missile factories and military commanders, in an operation it said was aimed at preventing Tehran from developing nuclear weapons. (A2 Televizion)
