Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu left for Washington today, where he will meet with US President Donald Trump in Washington, DC on Tuesday. The news was announced by Israeli media, according to which Netanyahu told reporters that the meeting with Trump could "further reshape the Middle East."
Before boarding his "Wings of Zion" jet for his flight to Washington, Prime Minister Netanyahu said that his talks in the American capital will focus on important and critical issues for Israel and the region.
"The agenda will be to achieve victory over Hamas, to secure the release of all our hostages, and to combat all components of the Iranian terrorist axis that threaten the peace of Israel, the Middle East, and the entire world," Netanyahu said, A2 CNN reports.
As Netanyahu is the first world leader to have an official meeting with US President Donald Trump since his inauguration, the Israeli prime minister declared that this is a testament to the strength of the Israeli-American alliance, while also claiming that this was "a sign of their personal friendship," A2 CNN quoted the Israeli prime minister as saying.
"The decisions we made in the war have already changed the face of the Middle East. The decisions we made and the courage of our soldiers have reshaped the map. But I believe that by working closely with President Trump, we can take this even further and do it better," Netanyahu said, according to A2 CNN.
Confirmation of the meeting comes hours after the latest round of hostage and prisoner releases under the Israel-Hamas ceasefire agreement.
The meeting also comes after Trump suggested his plan for the Gaza Strip was to "cleanse" the enclave and relocate hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to neighboring countries, an idea firmly rejected by a key group of Arab nations.
