Netanyahu threatens Houthis, EU concerned about Israel's Gaza plan

The European Union has reacted with concern to the Israeli government's plan to "occupy" the Gaza Strip and has called for "maximum restraint."

"The European Union is concerned about the planned expansion of the Israeli military operation in the Gaza Strip, which will lead to new casualties and suffering for the Palestinian population," EU spokesman Anouar El Anouni said on Monday.

The Israeli government plans to take control and permanently occupy the Gaza Strip. According to Israeli government sources, a plan recently approved by the Israeli security cabinet envisages the “occupation” of Palestinian territory and the “holding” of the occupied territories, Reuters quotes.

Israeli army chief Eyal Samir earlier announced an expansion of the military operation against the radical Islamist Hamas in the Gaza Strip and the recruitment of tens of thousands of civilians. He repeated the call for international airlines to cancel “all scheduled flights” to Israeli airports to protect their aircraft and personnel.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has issued a strong response on the social media platform X to the Houthi rebels who attacked Tel Aviv airport. "The Houthi attacks originate from Iran. Israel will respond to their attack on our main airport and at a time and place of our choosing against their Iranian terror masters," Netanyahu said on X.

According to Israeli sources, 24 hostages and the bodies of 35 of the hostages are still in Hamas hands. Former hostages report inhumane conditions. US President Trump recently stated that the number of survivors may be lower than previously thought.

The Houthi militia in Yemen is threatening to further disrupt air traffic to Israel after a rocket attack near Tel Aviv airport.

The Houthi rebels' military spokesman, Yahya Sari, spoke late Sunday evening of a "comprehensive air blockade" of Israel. The main target is Ben Gurion International Airport. (A2 Televizion)
