NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte emphasized increasing defense spending and increasing arms production. In Europe, congratulations have been less enthusiastic with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and European Union leaders seeking to work with Trump to strengthen the transatlantic partnership. Messages of congratulations have also flowed in from the Western Balkans. Albanian President Bajram Begaj stressed the importance of the alliance and strong friendship with the US.
Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani recalls the essential American commitment in the country's darkest days and recalls that Albanians are the most pro-American people in the world.
