A " political decision " designed to " deliberately block " her career and that in no way means the end of her political life. This is how French far-right leader Marine Le Pen defended herself after being banned from running for public office for five years after being accused of embezzling European funds for her party, the National Front.
In an interview with TF1, her first since the verdict, Le Pen claimed that "the rule of law has fallen" and, without admitting any guilt, announced that she would appeal so that she could run in the 2027 elections. "I will not let them eliminate me easily," she declared.
The next French elections will be held without Macron, who defeated Le Pen in the last two elections in the second round. More than two years from now, Le Pen is already emerging as the favorite in the polls, in both the first and second rounds, so today's decision against her is a strong blow that deprives her of the Presidential "dream".
Le Pen, however, has faith in the Court of Appeal, as the case is still open to appeal. She expressed on TF1 "confidence in the ability of an appeals court to analyze this case neutrally and to conclude that, in fact, we have nothing to be criticized for ."
Reactions have multiplied throughout the day, making it the issue of the day across Europe and much of the world. Far-right leaders and governments like Vladimir Putin's have come to Le Pen's defense, amid accusations of a " coup " by the French judiciary and an attempt to change the democratic will of the French people.
This is what figures such as Elon Musk, Viktor Orbán, Matteo Salvini and Santiago Abascal have said.
In that line of discussion, the president of the National Front, Jordan Bardella, has called for a " peaceful popular mobilization " against the " democratic scandal ." The call, according to a senior Le Pen party official, is to " save democracy ."
Bardella herself has positioned herself as a backup plan for Le Pen's supporters if the "de facto" leader ultimately fails to make it.
"Ai është një pasuri e madhe për lëvizjen që shpresoj se nuk duhet ta përdorim para se të jetë e nevojshme", përfundoi Marine Le Pen reagimin e saj. (A2 Televizion)
