It's better to live on the streets, next to homeless strangers, than to stay inside the walls of your house with your partner. This is the opinion of a 56-year-old Italian man who could not withstand the security measure of "house arrest" because he had to be with his wife all the time.
The 56-year-old from Biancavilla left his home after a fight and the carabinieri found him in Catania, among the homeless in Piazza Verga.
He was arrested for failing to comply with his security measure and sent home to continue serving his sentence.
The man confessed that after a heated argument with his partner, he decided to leave home, not seeking shelter with relatives or friends, but to go to Catania and join some homeless people who usually live in Piazza Giovanni Verga, one of the central areas of the city.
" I'd rather live on the streets than with my partner in Biancavilla ," the 56-year-old told the carabinieri, a phrase that surprised the officers but did not change the final outcome.
Despite his motive, which he defined as "a matter of emotional survival", the carabinieri had no choice but to carry out the arrest and escort him back to his home in Biancavilla, where he will have to continue serving his precautionary security measure. (A2 Televizion)
