Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán expressed his certainty that the war in Ukraine will end in 2025. In an interview published in Magyar Nemzet, Orbán it will end either through negotiations or after "one side" is destroyed, he argued.
"The war in Ukraine will end in 2025 and it will end either with a peace agreement or with the destruction of one of the warring parties," the Hungarian leader said.
The Kremlin's reaction was also immediate, according to which Russia has always been ready to achieve its goals in the conflict in Ukraine through diplomacy and has used military means only because Kiev refuses negotiations.
"Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly stated that we are open to resolving our issues through negotiations. Since there has been no change in Ukraine's willingness to negotiate, we will continue our operation. The situation on the battlefield, where Russian troops have an advantage over their opponents, "speaks for itself," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
Moscow wants its neighbor to be neutral and not a member of NATO, a military bloc that Russia considers hostile. It also demands that the strength of the Ukrainian army be limited and that Kiev abandon its policy of discrimination against ethnic Russians living in the country.
Earlier this month, the Russian military released its latest assessment of battlefield losses in Ukraine. About a million Ukrainian soldiers have been killed, wounded or captured since tensions with Kiev escalated in February 2022, Defense Minister Andrey Belousov said in a year-end report. More than half of the losses, 560,000, have been recorded this year, he said.
Meanwhile in the White House in recent weeks, Joe Biden is considering significant new sanctions against Russia's energy sector in an effort to deal a major blow to President Vladimir Putin. This is reported by the Washington Post, citing several sources, according to which sanctions can also strengthen Donald Trump in negotiations with Putin to end the war in Ukraine. (A2 Televizion)
