The EU has failed to approve a new package of sanctions against Russia for the second time after Slovakia opposed them, four EU diplomats told Reuters news agency.
According to foreign media, Slovakia vetoed the approval of the sanctions during a meeting of EU ambassadors, diplomats said, while two of the diplomats said Malta had also objected.
Slovakia has blocked the package due to its disagreement with a separate proposal to end all Russian gas imports from 2028, writes A2 CNN.
While the plan is not related to the latest sanctions package, Slovakia has linked the two issues to each other.
Bratislava is still heavily dependent on Russia for energy supplies and has argued that a ban on imports would harm its economy. (A2 Televizion)
